job is an Allied health specialty for diagnosing patients with
neurological disorders. Prepares patients for and conducts
neurological testing procedures to obtain data for use in the
diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system in at least
two of the following modalities, Electroencephalography (EEG),
Evoked Potentials (EP), Long-Term Monitoring (CLTM), Nerve
Conduction Studies (NCS), Transcranial Doppler (TCD), and
Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IONM). Analyzes and summarizes
results. Conforms to all laboratory policies and procedures
regarding OSHA and JCAHO guidelines for universal precautions and
hospital regulations.EducationRequired - -High school diploma or
equivalent.Preferred - -Associate degree.Work ExperienceRequired -
-2 years of related experience.Preferred - -3 years of related
experience.CertificationsRequired - -RVS, RCS, R.NCS.T, R.EEG.T,
R.EP.T, CLTM, or CNIM, -BLS certification.Knowledge Skills and
Abilities (KSAs)
- Highly competent in performing multiple neurodiagnostic testing
modalities.
- Knowledge of basic infection control standards relating to
patient and equipment including electrodes/probes.
- Knowledge of the central and peripheral nervous system.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathologic processes, and
aseptic techniques.
- Ability to identify all vessels of the Circle of Willis and
extracranial feeding vessels.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based
applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability
to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels
of individuals.
- Ability to establish good rapport with patients and staff.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and set and
prioritize.
- Ability to work flexible shifts (nights, evenings, weekends,
holidays, etc.).Job Duties
- Performs the duties outlined for Electroneurodiagnostic (END)
technologist under supervision.
- Accurately takes and documents pertinent history from the
patient or chart.
- Sets up patients for appropriate study, EEG, EP, NCS, TCD or
IOM.
- Measures/marks and accurately applies recording electrodes in a
timely manner, according to the International 10-20 Electrode
placement system.
- Performs diagnostic studies with appropriate documentation and
observation of the patient.
- Troubleshoots equipment and physiological artifacts
distinguishing normal from abnormal and using appropriate resources
to perform study.
- Maintains professional development, clinical knowledge,
technical skills, training, and credentials.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including
but not limited to respect for privacy, method of introduction to
the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be
performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
