Job Description Job Description Isidore Newman School seeks a
talented, dynamic, French language Lower School Teacher for the
2026-2027 academic year. The successful applicant will possess
excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; demonstrate
strong instructional and classroom management skills; be
technologically savvy and computer literate; have an abiding
interest in helping students to experience academic and social
growth; be successful in working with teams; possess strong
understanding of the developmental level of the students they
teach; and genuinely love to work with students at the Lower School
level. Working at Newman Founded in 1903, Newman has a rich history
in the heart of New Orleans, just blocks from historic St. Charles
Avenue, Audubon Park, and the vibrant music culture that makes our
city one-of-a-kind. Our community includes approximately 1,250
students and 250 employees from Green Trees to 12th grade. There is

Teachers are innovative, scholarly, collaborative, and deeply
committed to students' intellectual, social, emotional and
character development. Our Five Guiding Principles guide everything
we do at Newman. The most important qualifications are: A
bachelor's degree or higher in French or a closely related field;
graduate work in the discipline desired. Qualified applicants are
fluent French speakers and writers. Expertise in teaching beginner
to advanced levels of French through a communicative approach based
on target-language use. Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in
instruction and curriculum design at the primary level. Practical
knowledge of how to work with a wide range of learners in
elementary grades. A reflective practitioner committed to a
continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning. A
positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and
written communication skills. Must meet and maintain any and all
federal, state and local requirements to work in an educational
setting. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Enthusiasm for teaching early childhood and elementary-aged
children in a collaborative environment. Plan and execute lessons
that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole
group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the
skills and content of the Lower School. Facilitate the educational
and social development of the students. Create an environment of
respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning and
ensure students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations.
Contribute positively with colleagues around teaching and learning
and have a growth mindset. Assess the students in a variety of
ways, both formal and informal, and use assessment to guide
instruction for student growth, development, and learning. Complete
report cards. Communicate openly and effectively with parents
including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher
Conferences, and Curriculum Conversations. Participate in field
trips, special traditions, and activities of the Lower School.
Complete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned.
