Job Description Job Description Salary: The SPED Teacher works
under the leadership of the Special Education Coordinator and
collaborates with Regular Education Teachers, to plan, organize,
and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning
environment that guides and encourages students to develop and
fulfill their academic potential. The Special Education teacher
works within the least restrictive environment framework to ensure
transition skills are met as described on the students IEP. In
addition to push-in/pull-outs, the SPED teacher will also lead
study skills classes to reinforce classroom learning and complete
classroom assignments. The Teacher position is a 10.5 month
position. Major Duties and Responsibilities Culture, Ethics and

Contributes to and maintains the organizations culture and

long-term goals by: conveying the schools mission to all staff,
motivating and providing staff with the resources required to
improve performance, and holding staff accountable to performance.
Models professional, confidential and ethical standards when
dealing with students, parents, peers, and community Instructional
Leadership Observe and evaluate student performance and
development. Provide appropriate feedback on work. Perform all
duties pertaining to area of expertise as required (e.g. maintain
Special Education Records, attend internal and external meetings,
etc.) Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and
development. Manage student behavior in the classroom by
establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Communicate
necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and
parents regarding student progress and student needs. Monitor
student behavior both inside and outside the classroom (e.g.,
during class, in hallways between classes, and during assemblies,
extracurricular activity meetings or events, fire drills, or other
group activities.) Achieve significant improvement in academic
performance of students with exceptionalities Provide instruction
in small and large groups Use data to track student achievement
Develop IEPs to promote students academic, physical and social
development Collaborate with grade level and subject level teams
and student support staff Participate in regularly scheduled
meetings about student achievement Participate in the life of the
school including student activities and events Strategic Planning
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate
active learning experiences. Prepare required reports on students
and activities. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional
resources to meet the needs of the students with varying
backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs Resource Management
Participate in department, school, and parent meetings. Update all
necessary records accurately and completely as required by law,
district policies, and school regulations. Use relevant technology
to support instruction. Identify and select different instructional
resources and methods to meet students' varying needs. Perform
certain pastoral duties including, but not limited to: student
support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing
student encouragement. Collaborates with peers to enhance the
instructional environment. Participates in professional development
activities Advocacy Keep up to date with developments in subject
area, teaching resources, methods, and make relevant changes to
instructional plans and activities. Other Participate in
extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting
activities, clubs, and student organizations. Individual should be
willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of
children both inside and outside the classroom. Minimum
Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelors degree or higher
from an accredited institution (required). Valid Louisiana Special
Education Teaching Certification or evidence of eligibility for
one. 2 years of teaching experience in a high school environment
(preferred). Skills Knowledge of relevant technology. Ability to
speak, read, and write in a language other than English
(preferred). Demonstrates strong work ethic to achieve school
goals. Displays effective multi-tasking and time management skills.
Utilizes all required and recommended IHSNO computer applications.
Have knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in
secondary education. Have the ability to conform to an established
work schedule. Have effective interpersonal skills. Have the
ability to communicate in a concise and effective manner Work
Conditions Lift up to 65 lbs. Repetitive bending, stretching and
stooping. Ability to climb up and down 3 flights of stairs. Have
mobility required to ensure the safety of the students. Work
outdoors in any variety of weather. Have visual and hearing
capabilities that allow consistent supervision of students. Perform
light duty cleaning. Light typing and word processing. Other
Requirements Must be vaccinated against Covid-19 Valid Louisiana
Drivers License
